African Language Program Inventory

Freeman Asia Awards for Study in Asia
A recent survey found that only about 5% of study abroad students went to East and Southeast Asia, with the majority going to Japan or China. Yet, there are over a hundred programs to choose from in East and Southeast Asia. The Freeman Awards for study In asia (Freeman-ASIA) are intended to help fill this gap.

Russian and East European Studies Consortium
at Arizona State University "administers research, training, and outreach programs involving the lands and people of Eastern Europe and Eurasia." It also offers language training in Romanian, Serbo-Croatian, Macedonian, and Tatar and offers in-country summer language study. The Consortium will accept applicants from any college or university and assist students in finding funding.Ý

Grint Centre for Education and Culture*
is a popular study abroad agency in Russia.

Latin America and Caribbean

Directory of study abroad programs
in Latin America from Planeta.com includes study abroad and volunteer programs in Latin America and Spain, and first person accounts of language school experiences.

The Latin American Network Information Center (LANIC)) is affiliated with the Institute of Latin American Studies (LLILAS) at the University of Texas at Austin. LANIC's mission is to facilitate access to Internet-based communication to, from, or about Latin America.

Near East Internet Resources
Near Eastern, Islamic and Arabic Studies resources collected by the Yale University Library range from Arabic character software to news to womenís issues.

Middle East Studies Association
of North America (MESA) is located at the University of Arizona. MESA provides an online directory of all graduate and undergraduate programs and courses in Middle Eastern studies.

Center for Arabic Study Abroad
(CASA) represents a consortium of twenty-one American colleges and universities. It offers intensive advanced Arabic language training at the American University in Cairo, Egypt (A.U.C.) for Egyptian and American college-level students, graduate students, and professors specializing in various areas of Middle Eastern studies.

ABZU

Cross Cultural Adjustment

Culture Matters

Biodiversity Support Program (BSP)
supports projects that combine conservation with social and economic development, research and analysis of conservation approaches, and information exchange and outreach.

Find information on tax breaks available to you if youíre applying to college, already in school, or have already graduated and are paying back loans for your college education.

U.S. Department of Education, Student Financial Assistance
The Department administers several major student aid programs, including Pell Grants and Stafford Loans, which provide over $42 billion a year to help millions of students pay for the costs of college.Ý This site is a good starting point for information on financial aid or federal student aid programs.

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program
This program offers a competition for awards for study abroad, for students who are U.S. citizens and who are receiving federal Pell Grant funding at a 2-year or 4-year college or university.

FastWeb.com *
lets students create a personalized profile that can be matched against databases of colleges and scholarships. A popular free online scholarship matching service, the database has more than 600,000 scholarships totaling over $1 billion.

FinAid.org
has a comprehensive, annotated collection of information about student financial aid on the web. Access to FinAid is free for all users and there is no charge to link to the site. Itís a good first stop on the Web for students looking for ways to finance their education. The link above will take you directly to information about aid for study outside the US.

Rotary Foundation
Ambassadorial Scholarships will provide funding to students from any country with active Rotary clubs (only about 30 countries do not have active clubs). Open to both international and U.S. students who have completed at least two years of college education. Rotarians, their close relatives, and Rotary International employees are not eligible for these awards.

Thomas J. Watson Fellowship Program
is available only to seniors at 50 colleges and universities across the country.Ý If you happen to be at one of these institutions, the Watson Fellowship offers some unique opportunities. Students design their own program and can opt to study a regional issue or stay within one country.

Fulbright Student Program (for graduate study and research abroad)
The United States Department of State is the principal administrator of the Fulbright Program worldwide. The Institute of International Education (IIE) assists the Department of State in the conduct of the program at both predoctoral and postdoctoral levels.

Social Science Research Council (SSRC)
posts information on fellowship and grant programs sponsored by the SSRC either independently or with other organizations. These programs provide predissertation and dissertation fellowships, postdoctoral fellowships, and advanced research grants in both the social sciences and humanities. Some programs also provide support for natural scientists and non-academic professionals.

Harvard College "Guide to Grants"
Find out about this handy guide, which is not available on the web. "Significantly expanded and updated, this handbook describes over 275 national and regional grants and fellowships according to the types of experience they support. Written specifically for college students and recent graduates, the Guide to Grants includes an introduction on grantsmanship, which answers common questions about the application process, and a section each on grants for study in the U.S., study abroad, and work and practical experience (including public service)."

Best Bets for Internships Abroad
is compiled by the University of California, Irvine’s Center for International Education. Listed opportunities include positions for research, teaching, volunteering, and working abroad.

CDS International
serves almost 1,400 individuals annually from over 50 countries in Europe, Asia, and South America in a variety of work/study, internship, and study tour programs. The site focuses on Germany and also places interns in Singapore, Switzerland, Argentina, and Turkey.

Council on International Educational Exchange
a sponsor of study abroad programs. The site includes some good resource material. CIEE offers study abroad opportunities aimed at both graduate students and undergrads.

GoAbroad.com
Check out the Travel Guides for information on specific countries. The guides are constructed from contributions provided by professionals in the travel field, international educators, and other travelers. The site also includes a searchable database of scholarships, plus lots of detailed information on what you need to pack, bring, do and not do abroad, phone cards, health insurance, global currency converter, and embassy directories.

GradSchools.com
has a little bit of everything for graduate students, from programs to travel services. Try their international section and then search for a program in your subject area.

Institute for International Education (IIE)
administers over 250 programs on behalf of sponsors that include the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Agency for International Development, foundations, corporations, government agencies, international organizations and development assistance agencies in the United States and abroad. IIEPassport is a searchable database of undergraduate study abroad programs. If there are no exact matches for your query, closest alternatives are displayed. Basic facts on Study Abroad is a "how to" pamphlet. Study abroad resources on the web lists hundreds of colleges, universities and other organizations that sponsor study abroad programs, sorted by organization type, location in or outside the U.S., and by discipline.

International Student Travel Confederation (ISTC) *
produces and regulates the International Student Identity Card (ISIC), and supports local territory representatives promoting and distributing the card. This year over 3 million students will become ISIC holders. The card is now issued in over 90 countries and is recognized at many of the great historic and cultural institutions around the world

NAFSA: Association of International Educators
"promotes the exchange of students and scholars to and from the United States. Our members share a belief that international educational exchange advances learning and scholarship, builds respect among different peoples and encourages constructive leadership in a global community."

National Registration Center for Study Abroad
a collection of certified programs abroad with detailed information about each. It provides ranking by participants of the programs listed and presents these "Top Choices" for university students, health professionals, etc.

Petersons.com
is based on the popular Petersonís Education Guides. There is a lot of information on just about every study abroad topic here.

StudyAbroad.com
includes an extensive and well-organized handbook covering many questions you'll have about overseas study.

Students.gov
is a gateway to the U.S. Government with the goal of delivering government information and services for students. This site is a cooperative effort between federal agencies, students, and other parts of the higher education community.

Travel and Living Abroad

Health Insurance Information for Students Studying Overseas
The University of Michigan provides a sampling of companies which specialize in health insurance for those going abroad for educational purposes, and which sell plans to individuals.

Medical Information for Americans Traveling Abroad
The U.S. State Department suggests that, before going abroad, you learn what medical services your health insurance will cover overseas. “If your health insurance policy provides coverage outside the United States, remember to carry both your insurance policy identity card as proof of such insurance and a claim form. Although many health insurance companies will pay ‘customary and reasonable’ hospital costs abroad, very few will pay for your medical evacuation back to the United States. Medical evacuation can easily cost $10,000 and up, depending on your location and medical condition.”

is a national membership association dedicated to helping parents prepare for and put their children through college. Through its newsletter, "The College Parent Advisor," CPA provides its members information on savings strategies, financial aid, education tax credits and deductions, and other ways to help pay for college; offers advice during the application and selection process; and advises parents on the individual challenges they will encounter during their students' college years.
