THE BASICS
Are you eligible for a Boren Scholarship?
To be eligible, you must be:
- A U.S. citizen at the time of application.
- A high school graduate, or have earned a GED, and are enrolled as a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior and working toward a degree in a U.S. post-secondary institution.
- Applying to engage in a study abroad experience in a country outside of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand that meets home institution standards.
- Planning to use the scholarship for study abroad and the study abroad program ends before you graduate.
Community College students and students who have never traveled or studied abroad are eligible and are encouraged to apply.
Students who received a Boren Scholarship as freshmen or sophomores are eligible to compete for a second undergraduate award as upperclassmen.
Boren Scholarship recipients are eligible to apply for Boren Fellowships when they become graduate students.
Those who achieve an advanced level of language proficiency in Arabic, Korean, Mandarin, Persian, Russian, Hindi or Central Asian languages are also eligible to apply for National Flagship Language Program fellowships as long as they attain their bachelor's degree prior to the start of the award.
